Hello Bambino!

We started calling you Bambino.  Not sure why, but the name stuck for a while.

On May 2nd, I was having some tummy pain, and the OB office thought I should go to the ER to get checked out.  WOW...now that was a roller coaster ride!  First, based on the initial urine test that was sent to the lab, the doctor came back and said we weren't even pregnant!  I was devastated!!! All I could think was that something had happened to you and I just hadn't started to miscarry yet.  So, because of my insisting I was pregnant, the doctor ordered a blood test. The assistant was very happy to report that the lab had made a mistake and that my blood levels were through the roof--I was most definitely pregnant!  What a relief!  So, to further make sure you were ok, they sent me down for an ultrasound.  That was the first time we got to see you.  Your heart rate was 160.  You looked like a lil blob....LOL! You measured right at 8 weeks, exactly what we thought!

I had to go back to the ER on May 17th due to a kidney stone.  While the ultrasound tech was checking my kidneys he took a very quick peek at you.  You looked more like a teddy graham, waving your arms up and down :)

We had an OB appointment on May 9th, just to go over paperwork and do some labs.  We met "Nurse Ratchett", the mean medical assistant that seemed to relish in making people feel bad.  I had to drink the awful orange soda stuff for my glucose test.  It makes me soooo sick to my tummy.  After leaving the lab, I threw up on the skywalk going back to the North Clinic.  I told that mean nurse that it bothered my tummy!!!

On May 14th, we had our first real appointment with the OB office.  Typical stuff- swabs and a pelvic exam.  Nothing exciting to report.

Now...today, May 31.  We met with the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) nurse to go over family history and learn all about the tests that can be done to test for genetic issues.  Then we had an ultrasound to make some very important measurements to screen you for chromosomal abnormalities.  This ultrasound was soooo much fun! You not only looked absolutely perfect, with your perky lil nose, but you were funny!  You kept jumping by pushing off the wall of my uterus with your feet and jumping up and down.  It was so cute!  Even the tech laughed!  I asked if they could tell your gender, since the nurse said we might be able to tell.  She looked and said she was betting on a girl, but only with 60% certainty.  We will have to wait and see :)

How we spent Spring Break

Spring Break was pretty uneventful, or so we thought.  Early in the week, Josh and Jake were with their dad on a trip.  Daddy was here early in the week.  On Tuesday, March 20, we had a doctor appointment with Dr. Chien, one of the maternal-fetal specialists at Carle.  This was the third appointment we had been to in order to discuss the potential of expanding our family.  First, on my birthday, we saw Dr. Galloway, OB/GYN.  He said due to my complicated medical history, that he did not feel qualified to give us a real answer.  He referred us to Dr. Chien.  While we waited for the appointment with Dr. Chien, I saw Dr. Mongwa, my cardiologist.  I asked him the question, hypothetically, if it was ok for me to get pregnant.  He was against it.  So much so, that I cried off and on for days, grieving the loss of my potential fertility.

At Dr. Chien's office, we were both surprised that he was pretty optimistic.  I remember his final thoughts...."When you get pregnant, stop taking your cholesterol medication and give us a call."  That was the best news we had gotten in a long time.  We had dealt with one disappointment after another over the last few months, and this was certainly a ray of sunshine.

On Wednesday, I picked up Josh and Jake in Bloomington and headed to Grandma and Grandpa's in Jacksonville.  Daddy came over, and we had a nice couple of days.  Daddy and I made plans for the wedding- secured both the church and reception hall.  Daddy was not feeling well- he had an infection in his salivary gland.  His left cheek was swollen and he was miserable.  After some antibiotics, he was on the mend.

Thursday evening, we headed home- stopping in Springfield to pack some things in Uncle Daniel's truck to move them to Urbana.  Friday, all four of us went to see "21 Jump Street".  Saturday, Josh and Jake had some friends over night.  And, on one of those nights, you were created.
